Coventry City 1-0 Luton Town

Match Report

Arguably, but surely definitely, the worst Luton performance of the season, and after being so unlucky last week, there was nothing unlucky with this result. Having said that, the Sky Blues were average at best, and had it not been for our lack of quality this afternoon, they would have surely been put to the sword by the Hatters.  A dull first half petered out into a moany and groany half-time, with the promise, surely, that the second half could only get better. How false we all were.
*Half-time Coventry City 0-0 Luton Town

Within a minutes of the second half starting, Keith Keane was beaten down the hosts' left flank, and an easy header from Adebola made it 1-0 to the sky blues, who had just about been the better of the two sides early on.
*GOAL 47 minutes SKY BLUES 1-0 Hatters
Howard failed to get up in time after Nicholls played the ball low, into the penalty area a while afterwards, but after that it looked destined to be one nil, and Coventry could and should have finished the proceedings off but every time they broke foward, the flag on the far side seemed to go up. A late flurry from the town, resulting in corner after corner in stoppage time did nothing to change the scoreline, and it was a journey home all about questioning Newell's tactical substitutions and the radio phone in programme with many Happy Hornets rubbing salt into the wound.
