Fans/atmosphere

Not a bad turnout, although there were a few empty seats around my area. We failed to fill the lower tier of the Cobbalt Stand, but overall in excess of 1,000 I am sure. A disappointing way to end the year for all involved, but the atmosphere in the away section was good, the Ipswich fans made little noise, one of the worst vocally I have ever come across!

The amount is sure to start going downhill if our poor away form continues, but for the moment, and with only two away games before mid February, it is keeping up very well.

Day's ratings

Stadium - 8/10 Portman Road
Home fans - 4/10 Awful vocally but considering their poor home form, they still did, at least, turn up
Away fans - 7/10 Pretty good for a New Year's Eve, "post-Christmas money all spent" fixture!
Journey - 9/10 Two hours from our ground to their ground. Arrived far too early though, typical ToT
Programme - 9/10 Maybe have been the expensive 3 quid, but it has 63 pages and is pretty 'rammed' full of articles. Luton editors take note
Match itself - 8/10 Highly entertaining but yet again, D'Urso makes a critical decision. Against us
Performance - 7/10 Opposite to Derby last time out away, great for an hour but ended poorly. Enoch and Howie just don't work up front together Mr. Newell
Hatters' star Man - Paul Underwood (8/10) rarely single him out but he was full of energy today, well impressed

Ipswich Town 1-0 Luton Town

Match Report

A disappointing end to what has been a fabulous year for the town. Everything started well enough, and we had the better of an entertaining end to end first half. This being the third match in 5 days for these two sides, both seemed to be showing no fatigue considering. With Vine and Feeney starting up front (at last!), Luton showed a great deal of movement and good, on the floor, football. However, Feeney should have found the back of the net twenty minutes in, but his effort, from Foley's pass in, was blocked.
*Half-time Ipswich Town 0-0 Luton Town

The second half started at an alarming pace, Luton going all out in the opening ten minutes, with Robinson's header being paried by the Tractor Boys' 'keeper, and then Underwood going for goal from 25 yards, very unlucky not to have made it 1-0.

However, against the run of the play the only goal of the game came, Ian Westlake stole clear, and with Foley helpless, he slotted home past in-form Beresford.
*Goal 69 minutes TRACTOR BOYS 1-0 Hatters

A late Howard header went just over, and he also had a goal disallowed just before which seemed harsh, Robinson adjuged to have done, well, we didn't know. A bad decision it seemed by D'Urso, and that, coupled with Newell's striker substitutions, meant the Town ended the year on a bad note.

But, it is of course just two days 'til Watford visit, and then a week today a match against the European Champions. Travelling home from this, yet another awayday defeat, with all that in mind, along with celebrations tonight, it was not all doom and gloom for loyal Luton fans!
