Fans/atmosphere

Preston fans made quite a bit of noise and a tad intimidating, some good banter and a bit of trouble between two Luton fans threatened much but delivered little. Second half full of desperate pleas for the players to look interested. They did not respond.

Day's ratings

Stadium - 7/10 Deepdale - and what a fantastic museum to keep fans arriving at 1 o'clock, such as myself! Getting to sign the Tom Finney flag, my Nan's favourite ex-player, was a fantastic thing to get to do. Well done PNEFC, a great club in all ways.
Home fans - 9/10 Great vocally and backing their team. What were they singing all game though, one of their songs was hard to understand!
Away fans - 7/10 Not a bad following at all and did our best to get the lads going, but Preston were too good
Journey - 6/10 No fun, especially on the way back to the sacred south
Programme - 7/10 Good read, quite a bit on Luton too
Match itself - 8/10 To be honest, entertaining, but as a contest, over before the hour mark
Performance - 5/10 No guts no passion, would be lower but for ten second half minutes
Hatters' star Man - (7/10) Rowan Vine without a shadow of doubt, worked his ____ off today when no-one else seemed bothered

Preston North End 5-1 Luton Town

Match Report

The score says it all and although it does slightly flatter the Northerners, there is no doubting we came, got battered, and returned on this occassion. After only 30 or so seconds we conceded a needless corner, a sign off things to come having journeyed for quite some time for today's match at Deepdale. An early goal, given our defensive inabilities, seemed inevitable and a surprise that it took until the 20th minute for Neal to break through our defence, round Heikkenen, and sink the hearts of 700 or so awayday Hatters, placing the ball past Marlon.
*GOAL 20 minutes LILLYWHITES 1-0 Hatters

The second half began with the Town playing some good stuff for the first time this afternoon, but against the run of play, Preston doubled their lead with a Nugent header.
*GOAL 53 minutes LILLYWHITES 2-0 Hatters
A long afternoon? It was sure to be one, with Newell having been sent to the stands early on in the first period for arguing with the fourth official, it just simply wasn't our day.

A surprise in the 82nd minute, Barnett forced a corner and from Brko's shot off the bar, an unlucky Mears put through his own net, only for him to finish the contest minutes later
*GOAL 82 minutes Lillywhites 2-1 HATTERS
*GOAL 84 minutes LILLYWHITE 3-1 Hatters

Beresford then was sent off for bringing down a Preston forward, and with no subs left, Nicholls stood in goal for the penalty from Sedgwick.
*GOAL 90 minutes LILLYWHITES 4-1 Hatters
It was a hammering, and it ended with just about the last kick of the game, Nicholls blocked a shot as stand in goalie, but in form Davis for in form Preston finished crisply and it was five.
*GOAL 90 minutes{ +3 } LILLYWHITE 5-1 Hatters

All in all, a long day...
